It is February 1, 2026 when I am writing this post, so I am running a bit late for 2026. I am blaming it on the Hard Times. Anyhow, I kept it easy last year, and I am going to keep it easy again this year. Given how little I managed to read last year compared to previous years, I am just keeping things easy and relaxed. I will read what I manage to read and see how 2026 turns out at the end of the year. On a positive, as of the end of January I have managed to finish a few books, so I am hoping I can keep a good momentum going.
I will be attempting the following reading challenges in 2026:
The Mount TBR Reading Challenge

Highlight of rules:
- Any book you own that you have prior to January 1, 2025.
- ARCs (advanced reading copies) are included, a detail I often forget. They can be in print or electronic. I do have ARCs prior to 2025 that I would like to read too, so I need to remember to include them here.
- Any genre of book works.
- I can count books I am carrying over from 2025 "provided you had 50% or more of the book left to finish when January 1 rolled around." Yes, I got a couple that fit this criteria, and they will be counted. I also have one I was not able to include in the 2024 challenge list that will go in this year.
- You can use books for other challenges. Some of the ARCs I count here I will also use for the Netgalley/Edelweiss Reading Challenge I am doing (see below).
- You can list books ahead of time or list them as you read them. I will be listing them as I read them.
For me, this has become a tradition, and I like doing it because it gets me to read books I already own. Last year I managed to plant the flag on Mount Blanc by reading 24 books, though I was cutting it close at the end of the year. This year I am committing to Pike's Peak, the basic 12 books level. If I manage to read more, then I will upgrade the commitment. I will add books to the list as I get to them and add links to the reviews when I get them written. An additional detail for me is that I do count cartomancy deck kits if they include a full book because, unlike many other folks, I do actually read companion books, so I get to review them.
The book list:
- Various authors, Age of Darkness (Horus Heresy Book 16).
- Jack Sephirot, Allen Dempster, and Jaymi Elford, Runic Tarot (kit with deck and companion book).
- Jena Dellagrottaglia, Human Spirit Oracle (kit with deck and companion book).

I am trying this again as I do appreciate a challenge where I can count books I want to read that I do not own, which for me mostly comes down to books I get from the library.
Rules highlights:
- There is no date limit on your TBR list. They can have been on your list prior to January 2025 or you may have added it after the new year started.
- Like Mount TBR, you can count books you carry over from 2025 "provided you have 50% or more of the book to finish when January 1 rolled around."
- Any genre and format.
I am keeping it easy so I am committing to Mount Rum Doodle, at 12 books read and reviewed. If I manage to do more, I will upgrade to the next level. I will add books to the list as I get them read and provide links to the reviews once I get the reviews written and posted.
The list:
- William Marx, Libraries of the Mind.
- Alex Sparkly Kat, Postcolonial Astrology.
- Soma Chaudhuri (Editor) and Jane Ward (editor), The Witch Studies Reader.
The 2026 Netgalley/Edelweiss Reading Challenge

As I have mentioned before, I often request a galley too many, mainly from Edelweiss Plus these days. So this is a good challenge for me to catch up a bit and get them read and reviewed.
Rules highlights:
- "Any genre, release date, length, etc. counts – it just needs to be a book from NetGalley or Edelweiss."
As I did last year, I am committing to the Bronze Level, which is 10 books. Last year I managed to read 12, but not quite enough to make the Silver Level of 25 books read and reviewed. This year I am committing to the Bronze Level again, and we'll see how many I can get. I will add books to the list as I go, and I will provide links to reviews once I write and post them to the blog.
The list:
- Niro Feliciano, All is Calmish.
- Ethony Dawn, Become an Exceptional Tarot Reader.
The Reading Challenge Addict 2026

Finally, I tally up the challenges to declare my reading challenge addiction for 2026. I am keeping it Easy as Pie: 1-5 Challenges (Entered & Completed). This year I am attempting the three challenges listed above.
Best I can I will update this page throughout the year.
Thanks for sharing this. The problem I'm having with my reading down my owned-tbr is that the only books that are left are the most dense or weighty ones. I might make a goal of five of them, and even that seems a challenge!
