Reading Challenges for 2025

Welcome to my reading challenges page for 2025. This is my list of book reading challenges I will attempt over 2025. As I reach a milestone, I will be updating the page. Given the Hard Times, I will be taking it a bit easy on myself, and just see how far I can get.

This year I will be attempting three reading challenges. Two are challenges I have done before, and I keep doing them because they keep me accountable for certain books I want to read. The third challenge I've done in previous years, and I am trying it again this year.

The Mount TBR Reading Challenge

I've been doing this one for a few years now. I enjoy doing it because it encourages me to read books I own that I should be reading. So every year I manage to read at least a few books I own.

Highlight of rules:

  • Any book you own that you have prior to January 1, 2025.
  • ARCs (advanced reading copies) are included, a detail I often forget. They can be in print or electronic. I do have ARCs prior to 2025 that I would like to read too, so I need to remember to include them here.
  • Any genre of book works.
  • I can count books I am carrying over from 2024 "provided you had 50% or more of the book left to finish when January 1 rolled around." Yes, I got a couple that fit this criteria, and they will be counted. I also have one I was not able to include in the 2024 challenge list that will go in this year.
  • You can use books for other challenges. Some of the ARCs I count here I will also use for the Netgalley/Edelweiss Reading Challenge I am doing (see below).
  • You can list books ahead of time or list them as you read them. I will be listing them as I read them.

I am committing to 12 books, which makes it up Pike's Peak. If I manage more, I will upgrade to the next level.

Update note 7/3/2025: Entered book 12 on the list, so accomplished my initial commitment of 12 books read and reviewed, Pike's Peak. I also checked in with the challenge host and added books 1-14 to the list. At this point, I am upgrading the challenge to Mount Blanc and will attempt 24 books read and reviewed by end of year.

The 2025 Netgalley/Edelweiss Reading Challenge

I always request a bit more from Netgalley and/or Edelweiss than I probably should, so I always have galleys I need to catch up reading. For me, this challenge helps to motivate me to read them and keeps me accountable. So I am doing it again for 2025.

I am committing to the Bronze Level, which is 10 books. I may be able to do more than 10, but I am not sure, so keeping the goal modest. If I manage to to read more, I will upgrade the challenge.  I will be adding books to the list as I get them read.

Rules highlights:

  • "Any genre, release date, length, etc. counts – it just needs to be a book from NetGalley or Edelweiss."

List of books read for the 2025 Netgalley/Edelweiss Reading Challenge:

Update note 7/3/2025: Added books 3 to 5 read and reviewed, added books 6 and 7 as reading at the time.

The Virtual Mount TBR Challenge 2025

This is for those books I want to read and/or have on my TBR list that I want to get read. This is for books you do not own, so for example, books I check out from the library would count here. I've done this before, though not last year, so I am trying it again in 2025.

Rules highlights:

  • There is no date limit on your TBR list. They can have been on your list prior to January 2025 or you may have added it after the new year started.
  • Like Mount TBR, you can count books you carry over from 2024 "provided you have 50% or more of the book to finish when January 1 rolled around."
  • Any genre and format.

I am committing to 12 books read which puts me in the Mount Rum Doodle level. If I manage to read more, I will upgrade to the next level.
