This book is a compilation of his three previous books: Brain Droppings, Napalm and Silly Putty, and More Napalm and Silly Putty. He starts out stating clearly his motto of "fuck hope." He describes the world as it is, not as it should be. However, personally he is optimistic but skeptical. He is not a cynic; cynics are one who tell you all will be alright. Of course, includes his "stuff" routine, life is about finding a place for your stuff.

It also includes the differences in baseball and football, as well as comments on sports, such as we need a sport where the object is to kill someone, like deathball; I would definitely watch that. To be honest, I am a bit disappointed this is not a thing already in these times. I mean, things like MMA might get sort of close to it but not quite. Americans love violence as is, so may as well take the next logical step and bring some form of gladiatorial combat back. The bit of Carlin interviewing Jesus is pretty amusing.

Overall, the book is a good read. Unlike watching him perform, as a reader, Carlin is a bit more calm, and the pacing is a bit more relaxed, which makes this a pleasure to listen to. I always like when an author is also a good reader, and Carlin is pretty good reading. While this book is previously published material, it is still a very nice compilation. If you are a fan, you'll probably enjoy this. If you have not heard Carlin's work before, this is a pretty good compilation to give you a good idea of how good he is.

4 out of 5 stars.
