Booknote: Star Wars: Darth Vader Volume 2: Shadows and Secrets

Kieron Guillen, et.al., Star Wars: Darth Vader Volume 2: Shadows and Secrets. New York: Marvel, 2015. ISBN: 978-0-7851-9256-5.

Format: paperback
Source: Main branch of the Madison County (KY) Public Library

Darth Vader's story continues. He has rogue archeologist Dr. Aphra and her two killer droids Triple Zero and BT-1 working for him and helping with his private agenda. Vader discovers that the pilot that destroyed the Death Star is the son he never knew he had. He now wants to find this son. Meanwhile, he still has to do the Emperor's bidding and work to earn Imperial favor again.

The story continues from the previous volume. Adding interest, we get some connections to events from the films. The art continues to be great as well. To be honest, if Disney had chosen to make films from these comics instead of the poor quality new trilogy we are getting, they could have made a greater fortune. At this point, hardcore fans will watch and pay for anything labeled "Star Wars" no matter the quality. Yet we often find the best stories in comics like these and some of the novels. Oh well.

Anyhow, I still highly recommend this series.

5 out of 5 stars.
