In my quest to learn more about bourbon whiskey and whiskey in general, I picked up this book. This is definitely a very good book on the topic.
The book covers a lot of ground. It looks at the history of bourbon from its frontier origins to today. It looks at some of the key people in bourbon such as Beam, Craig, and others. The book also busts various myths, and it sets the record straight on some fictions and illusions. The book additionally looks at bourbon as part of a larger U.S. history context. In addition, it explores the business and even its influence on politics and society.
Overall, it is a very interesting book. However, keep in mind the narrative is not always linear. Text often jumps back and forth in time. You may also get some digressions. In the print version, this may not have been an issue. In an audiobook, it may be more more of an issue as you may feel you missed something or that a transition from one topic to another was not as clear.
Still, the book does have a great narrator with a good, clear voice. The narrator also does a great job of conveying the book author's attitude about bourbon found in his commentaries and observations.
Overall, the book offers a very good overview of bourbon's history as well as a good straight look at the business. It is a book I really liked. The audiobook is definitely a good way to read this book.
