In 2021, I completed four out of
six reading challenges I committed to do. To be honest, it felt like I cut it close, and I am definitely blaming the pandemic and the Hard Times we are living in. Given that the uncertainties of the pandemic and the Hard Times are going to continue in 2022, and to keep my stress levels as low as possible, I am only committing to two reading challenges this year. The two challenges are ones I have done before, so I can keep the routine a bit easier. A challenge for me often is not reading the books. The real challenge is checking into the challenges and recording the books completed when check in time comes around. We'll see how it goes this year.
So, for 2022 I am doing the following two reading challenges:
The Mount TBR Challenge for 2022
I have done this before to help me read more of the books I own sitting on my shelves that need to be read. So I am going to try again this year. Check the link above for details and rules. Bottom line is I am committing to the lowest setting:
Pike's Peak = 12 books read and reviewed.
If I read more than that, I will add them to the list, and who knows, maybe this is the year I make it to the next level. A detail I did not really pay attention to is that e-books and audiobooks do count, if you own them, and ARCs as well count if you own them. This may add to the list, we will see since I had never paid attention to that element before. Another detail is that omnibus editions, like the Warhammer 40,000 I often read, where they put together three novels or so can count for the number of novels (assuming those novels were published separately before). Again, I may try to keep an eye on that.
Note: the social media hashtag is #MountTBR2022. I often forget to use any hashtags a reading challenge may have. Since I am keeping things small this year, maybe I will remember this year.
When reviews are completed, I will link the book titles to the reviews.
Books read for Mount TBR Reading Challenge 2022:
- Sandy Mitchell, The Greater Good (Ciaphas Cain, Book 9).
- James Van Praagh, The Soul's Journey Lesson Cards (kit with 44-card deck and small companion book).
- Barbara Moore (author) and Mieke Janssens (artist), Wizards Tarot (kit with 78-card deck and companion book).
- Corrine Kenner (author) and John J. Blumen (illustrator), Tarot de los Magos (kit with 78-card deck and companion book).
- Colette Baron-Reid, Spirit Animal Oracle (kit with card deck and companion book).
- Denise Linn, Native Spirit Oracle Cards (kit with card deck and companion book).
- Sandra Anne Taylor, Energy Oracle Cards (kit with card deck and companion book).
- The Essential Tarot Book and Card Set (kit with the Hanson Roberts Tarot deck and companion book).
- Deborah Blake (author) and Elisabeth Alba (artist), The Everyday Witch Oracle (kit with deck and companion book).
- Eric C. Dunne (artist/creator) and Kim Huggens (author/writer). Tarot Apokalypsis (kit with deck and companion book).
- Tsugumi Ohba (author) and Takeshi Obata (artist), Death Note, Volume 1: Boredom.
- Alana Fairchild (author) and Jimmy Manton (artist), The Kali Oracle.
- Guy Haley, Flesh and Steel: a Noctis and Lux Novel (Warhammer Crime).
Update note (11/22/2022): With The Kali Oracle I complete my reading challenge commitment of 12 books. I managed to do an extra one. I am currently reading a book that would also qualify, but I am not likely to have it done before the year ends. If I do finish it in time then I will add it to the list. Otherwise I will carry it over into 2023, and it will likely be the first book finished for the list if I do this challenge again in 2023. I am pretty likely to do it again since it gets me to read stuff on my shelves.

The NetGalley/Edelweiss Challenge 2022
The other challenge I am doing this year is the NetGalley/Edelweiss Challenge for 2022. I always have an excess of titles, especially on NetGalley, that I need to read and review, so doing this challenge helps me get to those. I hope this year will be a good one for doing this, especially since I am not doing any other reading challenges, so I can focus a bit more on this.
You can check the link above for rules and details. I am keeping it seriously light and easy this year, so I am committing to the lowest level:
Bronze = 10 books read and reviewed
If I manage to read more, which I hope I will, I will keep adding them to the list. If I make to 25, I will upgrade to the next level, Silver. When reviews are completed, I will link the book titles to the reviews.
List of books read for the 2022 NetGalley/Edelweiss Reading Challenge:
- Anthony DeStefano, The Deadly Don: Vito Genovese, Mafia Boss.
- Leanna Greenaway and Beleta Greenaway, Catalog of the Unexplained: From Aliens & Aromatherapy to Zen and Zener Cards.
- Jeff Parker, Ninjak, Book 1.
- Debra DeAngelo, Pagan Curious: a Beginner's Guide to Nature, Magic, and Spirituality.
- Nancy C. Antenucci, Tarot Rituals: Ceremonies, Ideas, and Experiences for the Tarot Lover.

- Various authors, The Cimmerian, Volume 2.
- Elie Mystal, Allow Me to Retort: a Black Guy's Guide to the Constitution.

The other detail is doing the Reading Challenge Addict challenge, which is basically listing the number of challenges you are doing.

I also have the badge with link to this on right side column of the blog
I am committing to the Easy As Pie level, which is 1-5 challenges. For me, it is going to be two, and they are listed above.
Update note (11/22/2022): As noted above, I have completed the two reading challenges I signed up for. Not quite easy as pie, but I managed to do it. Hope to see you all next year, and stay tuned to see what reading challenges I decide to do for 2023.
